Yes, I will eventually post the rest of my Comic-con reports, but ya'll who know me probably aren't surprised that I'm taking a long time with it. In the meantime, I want to talk about Stardust, because we went to see it last night and ya'll, this movie is AWESOME. No, really, it is. And I say this as someone who loves the book and has reread it recently (which is usually the kiss of death for my enjoyment of movie adaptations). They've made quite a lot of changes from the book, but they're pretty much all wonderful changes.

If you're not familiar with Stardust, it's based on an illustrated novel by Neil Gaiman and it is a pure fairy tale in the tradition of pre-Tolkien English fantasy, only with a lot more wit than you'd get from Lord Dunsany or the Brothers Grimm. In some ways it's like The Princess Bride and in others it's nothing at all like it. As Neil Gaiman said, "I don't think it has much in common with The Princess Bride, they're at present the only two things in that genre."

It's funny, exciting, romantic, thrilling, and delightful. Claire Danes, who's supposed to be dead to me, is undeniably perfect as the fallen star. And the male lead, Charlie Cox, is destined for a lot of boyfriend lists. Seriously, ya'll, this guy is CUTE. Go see the movie for him, if for nothing else. Robert De Niro appears as you've never seen him before, Ricky Gervais has a wonderful small part, and the whole thing's narrated by Ian McKellen. What more do you want?

On a completely unrelated note, I've been mainlining Jericho episodes and am now thoroughly and completely hooked. Please direct me to a support group.
