Ya'll, I actually missed not having any Studio 60 to watch last night. It made me kinda sad. Does this mean I'm starting to fangirl it? I ended up listening to Corinne Bailey Rae's "Trouble Sleeping" this morning to console myself. I'm also feeling some The Office withdrawal from last week. I may have to rewatch a couple of episodes to ward off the DTs.

We still have not put up our tree and decorations yet. Between all the parties we had this weekend (a white elephant party, a glogg party and a skating party for the munchkin), and my knitting date with Libby, there just wasn't time. Btw, [livejournal.com profile] austin360, we've got a cocktail party Friday night, but it's at 5:00, so I'm guessing we'll be home between 7:00 and 8:00 if you still want to hang out. And yes, I could have emailed you, but this is me being lazy.

Speaking of knitting with Libby, we've been watching Veronica Mars season one, which she's never seen, and we're getting to the really good part. It's so much fun watching her get totally sucked into it as the season progresses. During "Mars vs. Mars" she was like, "Poor Logan. (pause) He's really cute. Wait, when did that happen?" Hee! "Just wait," I told her. "It gets better."

And because it's been ages since I did a meme... here's my stocking )

Please admire my new icon, in honor of the Veronica Mars finale. Only 51 minutes to go! I don't really think Butters did it, though. Probably. I've just been telling everyone that as a joke and I think it's awesome that there's actually an icon for it. My best (completely unspoiled) guess is either Beaver or Jackie. Or possibly Mr. Manning. There's something up with that man--mark my words.

Gilmore Girls is on right now, and yet I find that I don't care a bit. And if the WB thinks I'm going to miss the first two minutes of Veronica Mars for the last two crappy minutes of Gilmore Girls, they are sadly delusional.

So, weirdly enough, I didn't hate Gilmore Girls last night, despite the fact that it was a Daniel Fucking Palladino episode. What's up with that? Not that I loved it or anything, because the show's still moving in a direction I don't care to go, but at least there were several amusing moments. And Luke gets less likable by the episode, while Jess, of all people, is suddenly the most interesting character on the show. What the hell? And will someone please punch Rory in the face so she'll stop being such a hateful, childish brat? Please?

And Veronica Mars was just... whoa. I Am God )

Ya'll I am so over Gilmore Girls. It's not even that Tuesday's ep was all that bad, I'm just so tired of it. It's not fun anymore and I don't even care what happens to the characters.

I did read this thing the other day implying that the reason they've kept Luke and Lorelai at arm's length this season is because Scott Patterson and Lauren Graham don't get along and have terrible physical chemistry. Is this true? I've never paid much attention to GG behind-the-scenes gossip, but I guess it wouldn't surprise me. I have noticed that Scott Patterson's seemed really stiff all season, and every time he has to interact with Lauren Graham it's like he thinks she's made of glass and if he gets too close or touches her she'll break or something. And I do think the flatness of the Luke/Lorelai dynamic has something to do with my growing lack of interest in the show, but I'd sort of assumed that was the fault of the uneven writing. Whatever. *shrug*

Still haven't watched House. I think I'll save it for the weekend or maybe a night when there's nothing on.

Bones was awful last night. I mean, there were some cute moments and all, but overall it was a really clumsy plot, awkwardly written. Eh, that's sort of the joy of it, I think, that some weeks it's awful and others it's surprisingly not awful. And even when it's awful, you've always got Boreanaz being hot and charming and entertaining so it's never a total loss. But next week's episode? Oy. I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to stand to watch them trivialize and stereotype post-Katrina New Orleans and voodoo traditions. If it's anything like the rap episode I may be physically ill.

And what the hell was up on Veronica Mars? Plan B )

In other news, I've been listening the heck out of Patty Griffin's Impossible Dream and I've decided it's the unofficial Firefly soundtrack. Almost every song on that album makes me think of one or more of the characters on that show. And yes, I'm still plugging away at my Firefly fic. Only one and a half acts to write and then I'll have a completed draft.

More than once last week I started to write a journal update and every single time I got only a couple paragraphs in before I realized that it was so dull I was boring myself. So I decided to spare ya'll and just not post.

So, here's a catch-up summary of the Week in Television that is hopefully not (too) boring.

First, Bones... Two Bodies in the Lab )

Then, there was Veronica Mars. Versatile Toppings )

And then there was The Doctor. Doctor Who )

Um, West Wing? Two Weeks Out )

Grey's Anatomy, on the other hand, Superstition )

Whew. Okay, I think I'm caught up now.

In other news, we had a few people over for dinner last night and I made the Once Upon a Time in Mexico cochinita pibil and a pitcher of sangria. And then I made the mistake of having half a cup of coffee after dinner and ended up completely unable to sleep last night. Now I'm tired and the weather is rainy and gross today and I don't feel like doing anything. Bleh.

Well, I kinda sucked on my Oscar picks again this year. Only 12 out of 24. My personal record is 18 and I have yet to match it. The annoying thing is, I actually called the Crash win, but then I second-guessed myself and crossed it out. I had a sort of suspicion there'd be a Brokeback Mountain backlash, because it'd just been getting too much attention and there were too many parodies and jokes flying around to the point that we were all sick of hearing about it. But then I thought, nah, the Academy will want to show the world how progressive and gay-loving they are by giving an Oscar to BBM. Shows how much I know.

A while back [livejournal.com profile] austin360 mentioned in her blog that I've become an eBay whore. Well, that's not exactly true, but I have recently ventured into the exciting world of eBay for the first time. See, one day while looking at Veronica Mars LJ communities, I stumbled on a little place called [livejournal.com profile] neptune_style. The wonderful people over there (and at a similarly-themed thread on TWOP) spend their free time identifying Veronica's clothes and posting info on where you can buy them. Hey, I thought, I've always liked the way Veronica dresses--lots of casual layers and jeans and hoodies and cute t-shirts--I should check that out. Turns out, a lot of the stuff she wears on the show is pretty common, and once it's out of the stores you can often find it on eBay, brand new with tags, at huge discounts.

So far I've bought two jackets, both from "Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner." This one that she wore during the bathroom scene with Logan ("How much easier would your life be if you were indifferent to me?") and this one that she wore to the cigar shop and was subsequently sniffed by Keith. And both are pretty and awesome and comfy and fit me perfectly! Yay!

Had an AWESOME time in Austin with [livejournal.com profile] austin360 this weekend. I showed up at her apartment with seven seasons of Buffy, four seasons of Angel, amaretto sour mixings and my knitting bag. We then proceeded to spend the next two days on the couch in front of the TV (or in the bed in front of the TV). Seriously, we only left the apartment twice for food. A crazy amount of television was watched by us. CRAZY. But I'm fairly sure I managed to suck her into the mad Buffy/Angel love (and the mad Cordelia/Xander/Willow/Oz love, and the mad Giles love...) somewhere around hour four or five of Buffython '06. I am such the crack dealer and she is my whore. The list of everything we watched... )

If nothing else, I'd say she's got a nice, healthy crush on David Boreanaz now, so my work here is done.

In other news, I went to a new colorist on Friday and got my hair colored a redder red than before. It's very red. Willow red, in fact. Not sure yet how much I like it, though. It's gonna take some getting used to. Plus, when I had it blow-dried afterwards, the stylist ironed it flat. Like, flatter than it's ever been before. Donna Moss flat. I didn't even know my thick and curly hair could do that. And then when [livejournal.com profile] austin360 and I were watching Grey's we realized that it looked just like Addison Shepherd's hair. Same style, same length, same everything. Only redder, because mine hasn't had a chance to fade yet.

I'm just gonna come right out and say it: I hate the Winter Olympics. Seriously, there is not a single sport that really interests me much. So far I've seen approximately 30 minutes of snowboard cross, 20 minutes of figure skating and 10 minutes of women's bobsled. All of it bored me to tears. And NBC's coverage makes my eyes roll back in my head. I've probably watched a total of three hours of their coverage so far and of that only one hour was of actual competition footage.

Worst of all, though, is that there is NOTHING ELSE ON! No one wants to run new episodes against the Olympics so everything's either a rerun or pre-empted entirely so they can show Final Destination 2. Kill me now. Thank god for Grey's Anatomy, which continues to rock my world (and manages to kick the Olympics' ass in the ratings while it's doing it).

And no new Veronica Mars episodes until March 15??? Gah! Is UPN actively trying to make me go back to watching Lost? I guess that's better than the rumor I heard before, that it was on hiatus until April, but still. I NEED MY VERONICA MARS FIX!

So, um, last night's BSG... GUH! Spoiler-free comments inside )

MIL's in town, which is why I haven't been posting much this week. I've got fics floating around in my head and recs taunting me from my flist and not enough computer time to play with any of it. Wah. And I never got a chance to post about Wednesday's Veronica Mars (which was LOVE, btw).

Tonight we're going to see Richard play his first gig at the Velvet Melvin (no, [livejournal.com profile] austin360, I still don't know what time) and then tomorrow we're having my dad over for Steak and Guinness pie and an evening of NOT watching the Superbowl. And in the meantime I'm occupying myself by knitting a red and purple eyelash scarf for the MIL to wear to her Red Hat Society meetings.

So, um, Veronica Mars last night... wow. Spoilers for last night ahoy )

As for Lost... didn't watch it, didn't TiVo it, didn't tape it. That's the first time that's happened since the pilot aired. And I find I don't miss it at all.

Instead, I taped Bones during VM. Dude. The Mayor was on! Angel and the Mayor, together again, just like old times. *happy sigh* It was a pretty awesome episode, too. Not good (because when is Bones actually "good"?), but fun in all the right ways.

Oh, and there's some West Wing spoilers for the rest of the season here. For those of you who don't care enough to read the whole article, here are the highlights:

I've got a question for all you knitters on my flist. In the interest of combining my two favorite pastimes--knitting and fandom--I want to make the adorable knit hat that Veronica Mars wore in "One Angry Veronica."

Click for picture )

The pattern looks pretty straightforward (although I'm a little iffy on what kind of decreases to do to give it that sorta poofy look on top, so advice on that would be welcomed). My big question is about the yarn. Any of you guys recognize it or know of one that looks similar? I'm thinking that it's some kind of variegated bulky wool, yes? Or maybe it's super bulky? If you want more pics of it, there's a gallery of caps from the scene here.

One more day 'til I leave for Sundance! Whee! (Ask me if my laundry's done.)

I just realized that it's been days since I've updated and I don't really know why. I guess because I haven't really had much to say. Not that that's ever stopped me before, but whatever.

So, what have I been up to the last week? I am perilously close to being done with my Christmas shopping. Go me! At least with the gifts, anyway. Christmas dinner is a whole other project yet to be started, but I refuse to think about it before next week. In between shopping trips I managed to get myself all caught up with Veronica Mars. I love that show like whoa. Like change my desktop wallpaper, LJ layout and mood theme love it. Only I'm too lazy to actually change any of that stuff, so I'm just fantasizing about it. And speaking of television, tonight is the highly anticipated Bones Christmas boxers episode! SQUEE!

Mr. Sus and I had hoped to take the munchkin to see Narnia on Sunday, but then she decided (for reasons that elude me) that she didn't want to see it after all. So now I have no idea when amongst all the holiday bustle we're going to be able to get ourselves to it sans child. Not to mention King Kong. So many movies, so few babysitters.

And then after Christmas [livejournal.com profile] austin360 and dutch are coming! Yay! So much better than presents. And then a few weeks after that I'm going to do Sundance with M and D! Double yay! I'm going to have to get my hands on a decent winter coat for that one. Hopefully I'll be able to find a bargain at an after Christmas sale.

I'm so excited, ya'll! Finally, after almost two years of being at loose ends, I've gone and found myself a new fandom! Ever since the last LOTR movie came out I've been sort of between fandoms, wandering around, trying out different things, searching for something new to obsess about. I got into Buffy/Angel last year, but it's hard to really dive into a fandom that's essentially over before you even join. And while there are a lot of shows on right now that I really enjoy, none of them have ever quite flipped my crazy fangirl switch. Until now.

Yesterday I finished up the last of the Veronica Mars season one DVDs from Netflix and it's official: I'm in lurve. Really, really in lurve. I adore everything about this show unreservedly. And I've even got a ship! It's been years since there was a ship on TV that I really cared about. Yep, I'm a Logan/Veronica girl now.

I've been catching up on season two as fast as I can, and this morning I officially bumped my VM season pass to the top slot. So long, Lost! It's been nice knowing ya! Well, okay, I'll probably set the VCR to catch Lost for me, but it's definitely been downgraded to second string.
